While many people disagree with academic parental control, many people support parents' involvement in children's education. They say pushing hard on kids would inspire them to study harder and get closer to the step of success. Yet, pushing children too hard to achieve can create low self-esteem. Jason, a student who had experienced over-parenting, expresses that whenever his parent finds out his academic performance isn't what they expected, they will start to yell at him saying he is a shame to his family and get beaten up. This makes him feel like he is not good enough compare to others. Consequently, Jason always afraid of doing something that he wants to do because he thinks the result might be unsuccessful. Also, Jason would hate himself more if he fails to achieve something. It is actually breaking my heart listening to his words. He must have been through so much depression and feeling unneeded.

Mom, Dad! Please Save Me!"I have got the diploma that you always wanted. Goodbye." These are the last words that being left by a medical school's student. How would it feel if this note comes from one of the closest friends or family's members? Do you think parents able to kill their children? In fact, yes, in an indirect way. There are many loving parents, who always want the best for their children. A child's future is the most precious thing that parents can help provide for their kids. An education is one of the steps to reach to that bright future. For this reason, parents tend to push their children to work harder in school hoping their kids would succeed. However, parents forget the fact that pushing too hard can ruin their children. It can affect kids' mental health, lead to suicide, and create low self-esteem. Hence, parents should not push their children to achieve.
Pushing children to excel academically can affect their mental health. Many parents nowadays expect kids to achieve straight A's with more achievements in school's activities such as sports. Although pushing kids to study harder would give them a successful life, parents should know that modern education is already stressful enough. For this reason, parents should understand and try not to be too hard on kids' learning. Stuart Slavin, a pediatrician and professor at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He surveys two-thirds of Irvington's 2,100 students, revealing that there is fifty-four percent of students who show moderate to severe symptoms of depression, and eighty percent suffers moderate to severe symptoms of anxiety (Abeles, 2016). This shows serious impacts on kids' mental health due to education's pressure. The number of students suffering from depression and anxiety in Irvington High School is so far beyond what we would typically see in an adolescent population: "On top of a seven-hour school day, kids march through hours of nightly homework, daily sports practices, band rehearsals, and weekend-consuming assignments and tournaments," Stuart says. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most of the American teenagers get lesser two hours of sleep per night. At the university level, ninety-four percent of college counseling directors in a survey said that the numbers of students with severe psychological problems are rising ("American" 2016). Imagine if you are one of these students, do you still want to push your children to be perfect in school without knowing what they must deal with? Remember, the modern education itself is already able to bring children depression and anxiety, then would parents' involvement lead these kids to death? In Korea, students are being forced to go to many educational outlets and programs by parents. These students spend thirteen hours a day for studying while average high school students sleep only almost six hours a night to ensure that they have enough time to study. According to Se-Woong Koo, a South-Korean English teacher at a cram school in a wealthy neighborhood of Gangnam, the students are serious about studying but their eyes appear dead ("An" 2014, p.3). He asks them as if they were happy in this environment, one girl answers, "I would only be happy if my mother was gone because all my mother knew was how to nag about my academic performance" (Se-Woong Koo, 2014, p.4). An eleven-year-old girl confesses that she can "only" be happy if "her mother" was gone. This is heart-breaking! Moreover, her parent could've lost their daughter if this little young girl has the idea of ending her life. Here, parents need to think of why a little girl would have such a tragic thought. In the World Health Statistics (2017), it reports that the Republic of Korea's suicide rate has been rising to 28.3 percent (p.71). While teenage' suicides continuing to rise in Korea, moreover, it also covers all over the world. For example, recent research has revealed 10.3 percent of American students are considered to suicide in 2015 (American, 2014). China has ten percent of suicide and Vietnam have 7.4% during last year (World Health Statistics, 2017, p.71). Most of these students kill themselves by jumping off from high roofs, hanging, or cutting their hands' veins. This proves academic parental pressure is a serious issue that everyone need to pay attention and learn how to avoid hurting their children. While many people disagree with academic parental control, many people support parents' involvement in children's education. They say pushing hard on kids would inspire them to study harder and get closer to the step of success. Yet, pushing children too hard to achieve can create low self-esteem. Also, Jason would hate himself more if he fails to achieve something. It is actually breaking my heart listening to his words. He must have been through so much depression and feeling unneeded. Although pushing kids to achieve can give many positive effects, parents should know when to push and when to stop pushing because over pressuring children can take away your kids' lives and cause so much mental problems. Children could be success if they have warming parents, who would always encourage them even when they are failing or making any mistakes. If children find that they are being loved, they would try their best in school to make their parents happy and feel proud of them. Pushing isn't wrong but knowing the limit is very important. Please pay attention to kids' moods, stop pushing once you notice something is changing. "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless" -Mother Teresa. After taking the fake news quiz, I got 4 out of 6 questions. I was a little surprised when I got the answer wrong. I think that I can spot fake news based on their sources and the information that is given. I haven't been guilty of believing or disseminating fake news because usually when I read something, I will remember it and check it out later if it's true or not. I don't just read and believe it right away, I must see evidences to convince myself if that is true or wrong.
I think that I’m doing fine in English 102 because I’ve tried to do my homework on blogs. I’ve done my research proposal, rough draft, and peer evaluation essay of another research paper and I’ve turned it in on time. However, I have missed some homework (2-3) on the blog and missed one or two classes. Also, since my op-ed is B- I think that I get a B or a C in class. I hope so.

A Massive Military Parade, a Greater America.President Donald Trump's idea of having a military parade would make America great again! After a trip to Paris on July, Trump has asked the Pentagon to celebrate a massive military parade with soldiers marching, and tanks rolling like the one he saw in France or even larger. However, the antagonists think that it is unnecessary for the U.S to boast of its military's strength since it already is recognized as the leader of the NATO alliance and a model of military professionalism that countries around the world want to compete. Moreover, shipping tanks and other military hardware to Washington could cost millions of dollars and the troops are too busy. Hence, the military parade is not essential because it is expensive, not a good way to thank the military for what they have done for us, and it could make other countries doubly think it might be a sign of weakness.
According to an informal poll conducted by the Army Times, nearly nine in ten, or specifically eighty-nine percent, of the publication readers said the parade is a "waste of money and troops are too busy." Other critics have complained such parade would cost an immense price for assembling and displaying the military's biggest and most powerful machines. Furthermore, budget director Mick Mulvaney divulged that the estimate of a potential military parade requested by President Donald Trump is between ten million and thirty million dollars (Washington CNN). Instead of spending this money to have such a massive parade, Trump should use it to help fixing military housing, hire more Veteran Affairs doctors, or give more flight training time. For this reason, a million dollars parade could not be a good option since the United States can use this money for more helpful things. Also, it is unnecessary to celebrate this enormous parade because it can be a sign of weakness since we have not had any military parade since 1991. As we all know, having a military parade in the United States means a war has ended or we have won the war. It could be understandable when North Korea, Russia, or China celebrating their military parade since it is a part of their tradition. Think about it, the America’s authoritarian rivals may need to show their tanks, troops and jets through main thoroughfares in dramatic displays of strength. But should the United States emulate this kind of behavior? This might make people think, "Well, what are they afraid of now? What are they trying to prove? We don’t have to show off to make a point.” Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin is right to call the proposed display a “fantastic waste of money,” while Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham told CNN that the parade risked being “kind of cheesy and a sign of weakness” if it’s just about showing off military muscle. On the other hand, there are eleven percent of people who voted for this parade to happen with the opinion that "it is a great opportunity to show off U.S military might and give thanks to our soldiers" (Army Times). Despite of how much money it could cost for no good reason and the fact when this amount of money could help us to fix many other problems in our country. Is it worth it? If President Trump want to honor U.S troops, there are more things useful than expensive military parade such as having a coherent North Korea strategy, Syria strategy, Afghanistan strategy that we have been in 16 years, nominate US Ambassadors to South Korea and deter Russia. Also, we can reminisce our soldiers' heroic dedications through special days like Memorial Day and Veteran Day. Therefore, showing off our strength through a huge parade is not a good idea because appearances don't determine how strong we can be and obviously it is not necessary. In conclusion, Trump's idea of celebrating a parade is an unnecessary decision because there would be no reason for it and this massive display could cost an immense amount of money, which Trump can use it for other things to make America better. Although showing respect to the military is what we should do; however, we can be remembering and thankful for their bravely sacrifices through special dates like Independence Day. By: Bee and V
Pentagon Says Trump Ordered Washington Military Parade
Donald Trump loves appearances, not strength! After a trip to Paris on July, Trump has asked the Pentagon to celebrate a massive military parade like the one he saw in France. Moreover, shipping tanks and other military hardware to Washington could cost millions of dollars and the troops are too busy. Hence, the military parade isn't required.

I think that Philly does not deserve its reputation as it is being depicted by the media in Pre-Super Bowl coverage.
